Extension Food Science Workshops, Seminars, and Training Courses
For nearly 20 years, specialists at the University of Georgia’s Extension Food Science have offered industry-specific food safety training courses to food processors in Georgia, the U.S., and internationally. As regulations against foodborne illness get tougher, the food industry must incorporate control measures into their processes and train their workers in hygiene and food safety practices. We offer many training opportunities throughout the year, many of which are designed specifically for the Meat and Poultry Industry or the Fresh Produce and Fresh-Cut Produce industries. With regulations and public scrutiny on food safety tightening daily, producers and processors will receive expert assistance in setting up process controls and food safety mechanisms within their own operations. On-site consultations may be scheduled through your county Cooperative Extension agent or by .
Georgia Master Cattleman Program
The Master Cattlemen’s Program delivers a practical, science-based production management curriculum to Georgia’s beef producers. University of Georgia Extension Agents work with industry experts to deliver classes on beef cattle topics such as nutrition, facilities, forages, economics, marketing, foreign animal diseases, agro-terrorism, general herd health, external parasites, reproduction, Beef Quality Assurance, sire selection, record keeping and Georgia Cattlemen’s Association goals. The materials are intended to help Georgia beef producers be more profitable and sustainable. Participants meet one night a week for eight weeks. Over the eight week period, attendees learn and discuss current issues, meet industry experts, and network with area producers. The program is held in the fall and winter of each year, and rotates between the four regions of Georgia.
Georgia Master Gardeners
The Georgia Master Gardener training program provides more than 40 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction in horticulture and related areas. The classes provide home gardeners with information they need to become skilled Master Gardeners. Find out more about this program at the Georgia Master Gardener Web site.

Journeyman Farmer Certificate Training
Across the United States and in Georgia, the number of small and medium –sized farms is declining and the average age of farmers is on the rise. Although we need new farmers, the barriers would-be farmers face when trying to grow new agricultural businesses from the ground up can be formidable. 黑料网 Extension and partners has developed a new Journeyman Farmer Certificate Program to provide a comprehensive training program for beginning farmers. This project is funded by USDA NIFA Beginning Farmer Rancher Development Program and includes three training steps: 1. Small Farm Business Planning, 2. Small Fruit & Vegetable Production or Small Ruminants Production, and 3. Hands-on Production Training. If you have questions about the program or want to find out more about this opportunity, please contact us!
