Georgia 4-H Pumpkin Growing Contest

The Georgia 4-H Pumpkin Growing Contest offers the opportunity to exhibit knowledge and ability to cultivate and grow one or more pumpkins over a regulated period of time. Growing the heaviest pumpkin incorporates the basic aptitude of measurement concepts. Preparation skills, research abilities, and patience in this field of agricultural and environmental sciences enhance the ability to excel in this competition. In addition to learning the basic fundamentals of growing and caring for pumpkins, mathematical knowledge of space, depth, and irrigation will prepare participants for a successful harvest. Common problem-solving skills, such as insect patrol, are essential elements gained throughout this experience.


This contest is open to all 4-H'ers, kindergarten through 12th grade, and only one submission is allowed per 4-H'er. All entries must be submitted in Event Registration by Tuesday, October 21, 2025. This year’s results will be announced on Monday, October 27, 2025, just after National Pumpkin Day, October 26.

Cash prizes will be awarded to participants as follows:

1st Place? $100.00 ? ? ? 2nd Place $50.00????? 3rd Place $25.00

These prizes will be sent by the State 4-H Office. Prize money is graciously sponsored by the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association. We ask that 4-H’ers please send them a thank you card showing their appreciation for their support of this contest.?

Contacting the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association regarding prize money will result in disqualification.

The Georgia 4-H Photography Contest encourages self-expression and allows youth to demonstrate the skills they have learned in the area of photography, including the use of photographic equipment and the process of capturing images. This contest is open to all 4-H members and supporters, allowing contestants to demonstrate their skills in evaluating and selecting photographs based on industry standards and expectations.

CONTEST RULES

  • 4-H’ers in grades 4th-12th and adults are eligible to submit.
  • All photos must have been taken between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025, by the 4-H member or adult
  • who is submitting the photo. Photos should not be resubmitted from previous years.
  • Participants may submit a maximum of two photographs per category.
  • Photos must not be edited. Slight computer-enhanced photos are allowed (such as cropping,
  • trimming, and red-eye reduction), but photos significantly altered by using computer graphics will
  • be disqualified.
  • Each digital photo’s file name must be saved to include the participant’s name and county.
  • All photos must include a description of how the photo relates to the assigned category.
