Soon we will be entering 4-H Cotton Boll & Consumer Judging season! 4-H'ers in the 4th - 12th grades are invited to join our CBCJ team and learn skills to become better shoppers. This year the focus will be on evaluating headphones, jeans, crunchy snacks, and streaming services. Practices will begin in early September. Also be prepared to let us know your 4-H'er's after school availability as we look to schedule practices as we prepare for the district contest in November.

Kiwanis Spalding County Fair - September 5
For the second consecutive year, Jasper County 4-H’ers in the 4th - 12th grades have been invited to participate in the 4-H contests at the Spalding County Fair. In the attachment below you will find a two page file with all of the details and rules plus a listing of the categories. 4-H’ers may enter only one item in each category. This sheet is to be turned in to our office with all of your entries no later than 12:00 PM on Friday, September 5 so that we may take them to Griffin that afternoon to be judged. Your entries will be returned after the fair along with any premiums and ribbons you may win. Contact our office at uge2159@uga.edu or 706-468-6479 with any questions. If you don’t have access to a printer, you may pick up an entry form at our office. It can also be completed when you drop off your fair entries. We are looking forward to seeing your creativity shine!
Georgia National Fair Exhibit Entry - September 17
The Georgia National Fair in Perry will also be here soon! There are a wide variety of contests that 4-H'ers can compete in (several are even in person), and the details and guidelines for those can be viewed in the attachment below. Please contact our office at 706-468-6479 or uge2159@uga.edu with any questions or to register your 4-H'er by the Wednesday, September 17 deadline. All static entries must be turned in to our office by Wednesday, September 24 so that they can be taken to Perry for judging.
4-H Day at the Atlanta History Center is being rebranded as "Fall on the Farm with 4-H" and is offered on a Saturday this year! We will be able to explore the Atlanta History Museum, the Cyclorama, the 1860 Smith Family Farm, the 1928 Swan House (featured in "The Hunger Games" movies), and several gardens. Selected 4-H'ers will also have their exhibits displayed to share. Parents can check with us about registering to attend as a family and attending on your own or 4-H'ers can reserve a seat on our bus. This trip is for 4th - 12th grade 4-H'ers and will be held on Saturday, September 20. We will meet at 6:45 AM and return around 5:30 PM. The registration fee is $10.00. Madison Lions Club Fair - October 6
The Madison Lions Club Fair also offers additional opportunities for 4-H'ers to show off their creative skills! These contests are open to all 4th - 12th graders, and they will be competing against 4-H'ers from surrounding counties. The entry categories include photography, arts, crafts, poster, and bake off (cakes, cookies, candy & treats, pies, and decorated cakes). Multiple entries are allowed, but only one entry per category. Exhibits must be dropped off at our office by Friday, October 3 by 5:00 PM or by Monday, October 6 by 12:00 PM for baked goods so they can be transported to Madison to be judged that afternoon. The Georgia National Fair is just around the corner! ?4-H Day at the Fair will take place on Friday, October 10 (which is a fall break holiday!). Priority sign up goes to 6th - 12th grade 4-H'ers who competed in a district or state competition and runs through Tuesday, September 2. Any remaining seats on the bus will be available to other 4-H'ers after this date. It is FREE for all 4-H'ers to attend! Parents and families who wish to attend on their own can register their 4-H'ers in the 4th grade and up with our office, and they can enter the fair for free if they go through the gates with our group. Ride wristbands can be purchased in advance for $25.00. Returning this year - Georgia 4-H has created a shirt for this exciting day that can be ordered for $12.00! Mission Make-It - September 13
Calling 6th - 8th graders who are interested in STEM! Georgia 4-H will be hosting Mission Make-It: the Georgia 4-H Engineering Challenge on Saturday, September 13 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center from 8:00 AM - 5:15 PM. This educational non-competitive event for middle school students will engage them in the engineering design process, teamwork, and critical thinking. The 2025 theme is Bots & Bandages: The Tech Rx where they will learn about how the healthcare industry benefits from technology and engineering while participating in two exciting engineering design challenges! The registration fee is $5.00 and includes lunch. Special thanks to 4-H parent volunteers Robert and Ashley Perdue who will be attending with our county group.
