The Facts on Radon & Lung Cancer | (Family & Consumer Science) FACS of Life Podcast (Season 1, Episode 4)
EPISODE DESCRIPTION:
Radon Educator, Derek Cooper, and Amanda Harner, discuss radon gas and its health effects. When we think of what causes lung cancer we often immediately think of smoking. Though smoking is the leading cause of lung cancer in the US it is often not well known that radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the US. However, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer for non-smokers in the US. Radon levels are above Environmental Protection Levels in about 1 in 15 US households. In 2005 former US Surgeon General Richard H Carmona released a national health advisory on health risks from exposure to radon in indoor air.
