Healthy Foods for All: A Community Approach to Wellness
________________________________________
Hello neighbors! Have you ever wondered how you can make a big difference in our community? It’s simpler than you might think! By working together, we can help people in need and fight chronic diseases like diabetes right here at home.
The Power of Giving: Fueling a Healthier Community
When we donate food, we're doing more than just filling a pantry. We're giving someone a chance to have a healthy meal that can prevent or help manage chronic conditions. Many people face challenges getting enough nutritious food, a situation we call food insecurity or nutrition insecurity. This can make it harder to stay healthy.
This is where you come in! By donating foods that follow the MyPlate guidelines, you can make a real impact. MyPlate is an easy-to-understand guide from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that shows us how to build a healthy plate. It's like a roadmap for healthy eating!

What to Donate: Making Your Donations Count

Think of the MyPlate sections when you're choosing what to donate. Here are some ideas for nutritious foods that are easy to store and use:
? Fruits: Canned fruits (in juice, not syrup), dried fruits, or applesauce.
? Vegetables: Canned vegetables (low-sodium), canned tomatoes, and shelf-stable vegetable juice.
? Grains: Whole-wheat pasta, brown rice, oatmeal, and whole-grain cereals.
? Protein: Canned tuna or chicken, peanut butter, dried beans, and lentils.
? Dairy: Powdered milk and shelf-stable milk.
These donations help create meals that are balanced and full of the nutrients our bodies need to stay strong and healthy.

Our Food Donation Partners!

Every donation, big or small, helps create a healthier community. That’s why Monroe County Extension gives produce from our 4-H garden to the Monroe County Schools Back Pack Buddies and Food Pantries Programs as well as the Circle of Care Food Pantry. We will also start collecting pantry donations for these groups at the Extension office in October 2025.
Let's work together to make sure everyone has access to nutritious food. Your support is a powerful way to show you care!
